The song is still moving even after all these years and gray hairs...

sabi niya:
"As a parting gift, I am reprinting the lyrics of a song that merely used me
to express the spirit of what happened 20 years ago. If you wish to listen
to it, I believe it is downloadable in Limewire. Otherwise, try this link.

Handog Ng Pilipino Sa Mundo

'Di na 'ko papayag mawala ka muli.
'Di na 'ko papayag na muling mabawi,
Ating kalayaan kay tagal natin mithi.
'Di na papayagang mabawi muli.

Magkakapit-bisig libo-libong tao.
Kay sarap pala maging Pilipino.
Sama-sama iisa ang adhikain.
Kelan man 'di na paalipin.

Ref:
Handog ng Pilipino sa mundo,
Mapayapang paraang pagbabago.
Katotohanan, kalayaan, katarungan
Ay kayang makamit na walang dahas.
Basta't magkaisa tayong lahat.

Magsamasama tayo ikaw at ako

Masdan ang nagaganap sa aming bayan.
Magkasama ng mahirap at mayaman.
Kapit-bisig madre, pari, at sundalo.
Naging Langit itong bahagi ng mundo.

Huwag muling payagang umiral ang dilim.
Tinig ng bawat tao'y bigyan ng pansin.
Magkakapatid lahat sa Panginoon.
Ito'y lagi nating tatandaan.

He is just making a very wise decision.
Pinas is a very corrosive environment to be in.

Flips are not known to be frank and candid in their comments. But Jim's true
sentiments are in so many words, "F*ck you PI society, I won't let you ruin
my kids' future."

"Dedicated" is nice - "handog" in this case can also mean "offering" or
"offered". Jim says that he will post the english version in his blog this
week sometime.

And you're most welcome aling Sylvia. It's Jim we can thank for this
though, I'm just reposting what he put in his blog, with his permission.
Many of my friends were raving about the recent APO concert and how the
audience left SM Cinema3 with much satisfaction, even young people who did
not know them from the old days.

Jim says in his blog he's not really "leaving" - he'll be back again and
again. His words are, he and his wife are just too Pinoy to leave for good.
Mainly he says it's the time to try something new while also giving his kids
a choice. He says maybe it's just part of "mid-lifing", but it's really a
combination of many things - his wife is recovering from cancer, his kids
are getting older, the window of opportunity is closing, and a lot of
disappointment with the GMA administration.

If you have a chance, visit his blog, or listen to his interview as posted
by JT some time ago:

Here's more from Jim about leaving.
http://www.haringliwanag.pansitan.net/
----------------
zen to go

I have been receiving so much mail and comments from everywhere about my
moving to OZ. Of about 150 comments and letters so far, I have received only
two negative ones. The rest have been incredibly supportive, although many
expressed apprehension about the state of the Philippines because someone
like myself is opting to leave.

Last night, my brother-in-law asked me why I did not leave in 1989 when the
country was in greater disarray, and why I am leaving now. I explained that
at my age now, personal growth is very important to me since my window to do
stuff like this is clearly diminishing. By itself, the situation in the
country is not enough to make me leave. But other callings beckon.

In many ways, despite what the emotional fatigue and the physical toll
moving does, I feel like a young man on the verge of a great adventure. So
much to see, learn, and encounter-a new place to explore, new friends to
meet, new challenges. I can feel my blood racing already. It's like opening
one's eyes for the first time. Why, even a supermarket in Sydney would be an
exciting place to visit!

I remember a zen saying and I paraphrase, 'the zen one discovers in the
mountain is the same zen one brought up.' Which makes me wonder why I should
even be leaving at all! Ha ha! Life's contradictions make everything doubly
curious.

I found that interview somehow touching. And I can understand that he
doesn't want to leave the Philippines for good - there is nothing that
compares to the Philippines. The idea of taking a break from being Filipino
is quite creative, though I guess that most Filipinos who leave Inang Bayan
think of it in a similar way (even if they don't return eventually). To take
a break from being Filipino implies that being Filipino is hard work. Or
merely is living in the Philippines hard work?
